Subject to a complete no expense spared restoration – including a number of modifications and upgrades – this beautiful 2CV is the best we’ve seen.

Taken off the road in 1997 with only 32,000 miles on the clock, the car then emerged in 2017 for renovation works spanning the next few years and completed in 2020.

The 2CV looks superb…starting with a new chassis (the correct type based on original specifications including the louvred panel and front-end winglets) the car was built up by Tower Citroen Specialists and painted in a custom blue-and-white Dolly inspired livery.

Despite its low mileage it was decided to dismantle the mechanicals. Tower were entrusted with the engine rebuild and offered a little extra pep with the addition of a lightened flywheel and slightly increased compression. The addition of a Burton power tube and Lumenition electronic ignition help to wring perhaps a couple of additional horsepower out of the 602cc unit. With Tower having completed the car with a professional steering and suspension set-up it drives just as a late-2CV should.

The interior is kitted out with delightful blue and white houndstooth seat covers complemented with blue door cards. All the controls and switches are, as expected, in full working order and the engine starts on the button with just a little choke. The new roll-back roof does just what it should and the addition of a mesh screen allows full open use without the usual hurricane sweeping through the passenger compartment.

With just a few thousand miles clocked-up since the restoration – and still only 35,000 since its first registration in February 1986 – this is about as good as it gets to acquire an untroubled 2CV to use, admire and be admired in.
