An abandoned 1990 Sierra XR4X4i….in need of some TLC! We believe the car to be complete other than a couple of minor bits that have been removed (headlamp washers) or broken (passenger side door handle, boot lock). All glass is unbroken and doors and boot open fine.
The body work clearly needs attention. Sills are poor, front of floor / footwell will need work as will boot floor and parts of the back panel. A previous owner has made a temporary repair to the sunroof surround which will definitely need to be revisited. The front and rear passenger side doors are both suffering from minor dents. And of course, the car will need a full paint to bring it back to its best. Otherwise, the car appears structurally sound and corrosion is localised. There’s no sign of any rot around the suspension turrets, engine bay or front of the chassis and this appears to be a straight, undamaged car.
The interior is good and apart from a small crack on dashtop, just needs a good tidy. The seats are free of rips and cushions are not collapsed and door cards etc. are in decent condition. The rear seats fold down and click back in to place as they should.
Mechanically, the 2.9 litre V6 Cologne engine starts and runs. We believe the car to be a genuine 39,800 mile from new so with a recommission and a bit of fettling the motor should have plenty of life in it. The brakes were seized when we got the car: we’ve replaced the callipers, pads and flex pipes all round and put new discs on the rear. We did this to allow us to safely drive the car locally between our workshops which it did without drama. The car is sitting on some aftermarket alloys but we have a set of what we believe to be the original wheels that will be sold with the car.
We have the V5, key (plus a set of replacement lock barrels for the boot etc) and an HPI report. We think the car was last taxed in 2008 and suspect that the recorded mileage of 39,773 miles is genuine (although we can’t warrant this).
This is a very achievable project and would be a fantastic car to get back on the road. Sensible offers considered.
