This beautifully presented Mark IV Magnette has just, we believe, a genuine 33,000 miles on the clock. As an early Mark IV, it boasts the larger 1.6 B-series engine than was found on previous models and it still retains the twin SU carburettors that have been subsequently binned on many of these cars. The original owner chose the factory option of the 3-speed automatic transmission and we’re pleased to note that despite the intervening 60 years the column shifted unit still engages and runs smoothly.
Despite the lack of a comprehensive documented history it is clear to see that this MG has been well looked after. It starts on the button and drives very nicely. We suspect that the paint may have been refreshed some years ago but it still looks in great condition with the few age-related blemishes inconsequential to the overall appearance. The car is certainly solid and all the chrome pieces are in nice shiny condition. The interior is original leather and polished wood, in great condition with the seats showing a patina to reflect their age. The previous owner appears to have made one or two minor upgrades, most notably the addition of an FM radio.
These wonderfully understated grand saloons are now few and far between and, we think, you’d be hard pressed to find another one for sale today that’s ready to go and in such nice condition. The car comes with a full factory workshop manual and we have no hesitation in giving it a new MOT at the point of sale.
