This handsome P5B comes to us after a few years off the road. Whilst tucked away it was treated, in 2020, to a range of professional restoration works including new sills, d-posts, catch boxes, jacking points and other repairs around the rear wheel arches and door jambs. The underside and cavities were Waxoyled and new rear shock absorbers fitted. Various other bits and pieces were attended to including a full dismantle and clean-up of the carbs. The result: a really solid, fully functioning and very usable P5.
The inside is very original – with the exception of the aftermarket radio - and in generally good condition with nicely patinaed leather and correct switches and gauges. There are a couple of minor points to attend to: a small tear on the driver’s seat back and similar on the top of the rear seat. The door cappings are good but, particularly on the left-hand side, may benefit from a re-varnish. The carpets look to be the originals from 1970 so could probably do with a freshen! Bodywork is very good and paint and chrome in nice condition other than a couple of minor surface scrapes here and there.
Mechanically, everything appears in fine fettle. The 3.5 starts without hesitation and runs and stops smoothly and without drama.
We understand from documents accompanying the car that it was purchased from its first owner in 1979 and then kept in the same family ownership until the mid-2010s. The file also includes many old sales receipts, MOT and tax discs and photographic records of the aforementioned restoration works carried out a few years ago.
